Carbon Dioxide has been used
as an extinguishant in fixed installations since the beginning
of the twentieth century. Carbon Dioxide is a colourless,
odourless, dry, inert gas and is one of the most wellknown of
all fire extinguishants. |

The standard size cylinders
used for the Gielle Carbon Dioxide system is 67.5 L steel
cylinders filled with 45 Kg of Carbon Dioxide. Cylinders can
be delivered in accordance with the requirements of the
various national authorities, including required stamping and
certificates |

Valves |

In order to enable remote
control and quick release, the Carbon Dioxide cylinders from
Gielle are delivered with a pressure operated quick opening
valve, which also offers the possibility of manual operation.
The valve is fitted with a built-in bursting disc that will
burst at 190 bar in case of an occurring overpressure. For
ease of service and maintenance the valve is also fitted with
a green throw-off cover plate which will indicate that the
cylinder is leaking. |

Carbon Dioxide will extinguish
fires in almost all combustibles except for a few active
metals, metallic salts and substances containing oxygen, i.e.
nitrates chlorates. |
